Kockum Sonics is now looking for a CTO (Chief Technical Officer) to lead our R&D and engineering function in Malmö. ABOUT THE ROLE
At Kockum Sonics you will lead a talented and growing team of engineers and developers, covering a wide spectrum of technologies – from embedded software and electronics to acoustics and mechanical design. You will have five direct reports, including the Head of Software Development, who manages a team of five engineers, as well as responsibility for one person working with internal IT support.

The software team develops our Loadmaster and Levelmaster platforms – two advanced and well-established system solutions installed onboard vessels and tailored to meet customer needs. The Malmö team works in close collaboration with our colleagues in Denmark, who are responsible for the Loadstar platform, ensuring strong cross-border synergy and innovation.

The hardware team, reporting directly to the CTO, works with mechanics and electronics, sensors and transducers (PLC/DCS), as well as PCB design. Their expertise ensures that Kockum Sonics’ products combine robustness, reliability, and precision across a wide range of marine and industrial applications.

In addition, you and your team will have overall technical responsibility for Tyfon – our world-renowned signaling systems, also known as “Hesa Fredrik” – used for alarms and signals on both ships and trains.

In this role you will also work closely with our production team in Malmö and with Sales, who hold the commercial customer relationship and, together with production project managers, drive the delivery to the customer. This collaboration ensures that development, customer expectations, and delivery are fully aligned.

You will have overall responsibility for technical development, technical product ownership of all products within Kockum Sonics, and quality assurance across our entire product portfolio. With a strong order intake and exciting new projects ahead, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our technology and product offering.

YOU WILL
Lead and develop the technology department in Malmö with five direct reports, including the Head of Software Development.

Take on technical product ownership for all products within Kockum Sonics, ensuring they meet requirements, maintain relevant certifications, and evolve according to customer and market needs.

Own and manage product development and lifecycle management (PLM/PDM) for the full product portfolio.

Drive the department’s project portfolio in the short and long term with respect to cost budget, quality, and time.

Coordinate and manage ISO 9001 and all classifications and certifications across the product portfolio.

Collaborate closely with Sales in Malmö, who own the customer relationship, and with production project managers who drive customer deliveries.

Represent Kockum Sonics in external collaborations and industry forums.

YOU ARE
An experienced leader with at least 8–10 years in similar technical leadership roles in an international setting.

Skilled in managing both SW and HW development from prototype to final product.

Used to working close to customers, from design through delivery and commissioning.

Strong in change management, process development, and structured requirements handling.

Knowledgeable in test-driven development, agile methods, and modern engineering tools (Jira, SolidWorks, Pyramid-ERP).

Academically qualified, ideally with a Master’s degree in engineering (electronics or mechanics).

Fluent in English, written and spoken. Swedish is meriting.
